Can it get any better?

I have had the best sports year of my life already. Dare I say: Can it get any better?

“Eight is enough.” – Coach K in reference to his shallow Blue Devil bench

The unlikely freshman heavy Blue Devil team of Duke stole away one of the best games of NCAA college basketball championship history from the Wisconsin Badgers.

The game started off close and ended close. Wisconsin and Duke traded leads and 3 pointers throughout the entire game. The first half ended tied but with two clutch Duke players, Okafor and Winslow, in serious foul trouble. Wisconsin’s Kaminsky and Nigel Hayes were unbelievably good but the second half Duke team proved too much for Wisconsin.

The second half just showcased the talent of Duke’s shallow bench. Grayson Allen came out wanting to win off the bench and he scored 16 points. A repeat of his showing at the last game which included an amazing dunk.

Amile Jefferson and Marshall Plumlee were key off the bench for Jahlil Okafor who was in foul trouble most of the second half.

The lone senior starter Quinn Cook demonstrated leadership and tenacity. Justise Winslow, also in foul trouble, showed his rebounding (9) abilities despite the location of his foot.

Wisconsin did come back to take the largest lead of the game at 9 points. Duke had to regroup and so did I.

The last 5 minutes were played physically. Wisconsin may blame the officiating and multiple fouls called on Duke’s ability to come back. And I must agree I don’t want to win unless it’s a clean win, but Duke outscored Wisconsin due to multiple three pointers by Tyus Jones who ended the game with 23. Okafor finally came off the bench to score most of his points under the net. He was the closer of the game set up by Jones and Allen. Duke came back to win by 5.

Congratulations to the Duke Blue Devils and Coach K for his 5th National Championship!!! 2015 National Champs!

Did you know?

60 of the 68 points scored by Duke were scored by freshman. The most ever in an NCAA Championship game.

Coach K is 5-0 in the Final Four.

Coach K has won 3 out 5 National Championships in Indianapolis.

Tyus Jones was named the 2015 Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four.

Frank Kaminsky of Wisconsin won the 2015 Naismith Trophy (kinda like the Heisman).

Tennis star Caroline Wozniaki was cheering for Wisconsin at the game with another athlete (potential 3rd athlete she’s dated) NFL player J.J. Watt. At least he went to Wisconsin unlike Aaron Rodgers.

I have been a Duke alum/student for 3 out 5 National Championships. Coach K: Please tell me you have 6, 7 or 8 in you still…

I feel like it was just the World Series…

Happy Opening Day to the MLB!

A common ending…

Novak Djokovic won the Miami Open title against a familiar opponent: Andy Murray in 3 sets.

The next big thing: The women’s NCAA college basketball championship game is tonight. The game will include a common member UConn and their newest rival Notre Dame.

This has already been a great sports year for me! The Buckeyes winning the first ever NCAA football championship, attending the Australian Open and now Duke! I don’t want to be greedy but the Cavaliers could make this year epic. Just saying…

Thank you for reading! I’m still smiling and all I want to do is burn a bench!
