It’ll be my Bucks versus the Ducks…

The first ever college football playoffs did not disappoint on this New Year’s Day.

The story was about turnovers and Heisman trophy winners for Oregon versus Florida State in the Rose Bowl. Florida State turned over the ball about 5 times which led to touchdowns for Oregon in their 59-20 dominant win.

Can I get an Amen for the Big Ten…

Wisconsin came from behind to beat Auburn in the Outback Bowl and Michigan State beat Baylor in the Cotton Bowl. Minnesota was the only team unable to keep the streak against Missouri in the Citrus Bowl.

This one is for my sister…

Here is a quick run down of some of the college bowls over the past few days:

Stanford beat Maryland in the Foster Farms Bowl.
Notre Dame beat LSU in the Music City Bowl.
Georgia won against Louisville in the Belk Bowl.
TCU made a statement against Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl.
Boise State stole Arizona’s home field advantage in the Fiesta Bowl.
Georgia Tech beat Mississippi State in the Orange Bowl.

This brings up the question: Was the SEC overrated or was the Big Ten underrated? I think it’s a little bit of both. Regardless my favorite underrated team represented the Big Ten in the other playoff game…

My Homies

It’s all ’bout them Bucks…

The Ohio State University took on #1 Alabama in the Sugar Bowl today. Ohio State started off with a shaky beginning in the first quarter, but our defense made game changing plays to give us momentum going into the second half and our offense finally came together to beat the Crimson Tide.

Ohio State came in as the underdog who possibly didn’t deserve the fourth playoff spot. I think the Buckeyes have silenced that debate.

Black and White New Year’s Eve Party

So it wasn’t a tailgate but I prepped while watching football.

My sister and I hosted a black and white New Year’s Eve party at our house complete with a black carpet, a promesque back drop, black and white menu, and signature drinks. It was so fun seeing everyone dressed up – especially the guys – and so nice to be home at the end of the night. The best part was planning the menu…I was worried about finding black and white food but the trick is in the preparation and description.

Here’s our menu:

Appetizers: Blackberry Almond Baguette, White Artichoke Dip
Entrees: Blackened Ginger Chicken, Blackened Ginger Flank Steak
Sides: Black Bean Salad, White Bean Salad, Roasted White Asparagus and Cauliflower, White Gorgonzola Mac and Cheese
Dessert: Marble Cupcakes, Hershey’s Hugs

Signature Drinks: White Sangria and Black Russian

Thank you to my friend Crystal for her white sangria recipe. It was a big hit.

Here’s my recipe for the Blackberry Almond Baguette:

two rolls of french baguette
two 8 oz packages of cream cheese
1/3 c of powdered sugar or to desired sweetness
1 tbsp of almond extract or to desired almondy goodness
sliced almond

Combine softened cream cheese with powered sugar until desired sweetness adding the sugar slowly to prevent over sweetness. Once you have your desired sweetness add the almond extract.

Spread the cream cheese on the diagonally sliced french baguette.

Place a blackberry on the baguette. Sprinkle a few almonds on the baguette and enjoy!

Happy New Year to you all! Thank you for reading! Here’s to finding the unicorn in 2015!
